Sporting Clays

Sporting Clays is the fastest growing shooting sport in the nation. Sporting Clays is often described as golf with a shotgun. River Breaks Ranch offers the only public course within 200 miles of Amarillo. The course consists of two 10 station courses with birds or clay targets that are different presentation at each station. You will see everything from crossing, coming towards you, going away from you, coming from behind you, running on the ground and dropping out of the sky.

Minimum reservation is for two people (single shooters MUST shoot a double round). In most cases the maximum number of people in one group is 5. Groups larger than 5 will be split into groups accordingly. Children must be attended at all times, both on the sporting clays course and in the clubhouse.

Sporting Clays is a safe shotgun sport

It's only similiarity to skeet or trap shooting is that you use a shotgun to shoot clay targets. On a sporting clays course, you move from station to station. At each station, clay targets are thrown in pairs, usually 8-10 targets per station.

A typical round of sporting clays consists of a total of 100 targets. Each presentation differs from the others to keep it interesting, exciting and challenging. There are variations in trap position, speed, shooting position, size of the targets. The flight paths of different sizes of clay targets can include targets that come through the trees, straight up, over your head, quartering, and going away, left to right and right to left.

Our course is designed for both beginners and experts to enjoy.

Please Note: Lost or stolen membership cards can be replaced, but unused rounds cannot.

All shooters must be checked in and on the course 2 hours before dark. Please call for availability outside of regular business hours.
